Why people pick mirror

A full mirror across a closet does two jobs. You get a full-length mirror without giving up wall space, and a small room looks bigger. That's why mirrors show up so often in condo bedrooms, basement apartments and narrow hallways.

The trade-off is real, though. Mirrors show fingerprints, and they're heavier to carry than a panel door. If the closet is in a kids' room or a busy entry, a panel door might suit you better. Mirror vs panel →

Framed or frameless

Framed mirror doors have a slim aluminium frame in white or black; frameless doors show glass edge to edge, with a thin white, silver or black edge, and cost a little more. Both are measured and ordered the same way.

Measure the opening, not the old door

When you replace old mirror doors, measure the opening itself. Old doors were often cut to a standard size and shimmed. Measure width at the top, middle and bottom and height at left, middle and right, use the smallest, and enter what the tape says. The measuring guide →
